Spring 2008
MIKS returned to Chisenhale Dance Space in Spring 2008 with a research project as part of the Space Bursary Programme. MIKS took the opportunity to look back and explore more in detail some aspects of the research for their triple bill project n+, inspired by the writings of Georges Pérec and Oulipo. The research has looked at translation of sound and music scores in different modes and adapted to movement, space and choreographic structures. The research culminated in an open sharing on Friday 7th March 08 at Chisenhale Dance Space, together with three other researching artists Helen Schoene, Kira O’Reilly and Olivier Rodriguez.
April-August 2006
What do you see? What do you read? How is narrative created? Is it created by performer, perceiver or both?
For their first research project as a collective, MIKS looked at the notion of narrative through improvisation and observation. New eyes were invited in along the residency to see and read. The idea was to study and play with the relationship between performer and perceiver.
The research concentrated on looking at theatrical elements such as props, text, costume, lights, space and movement as means to build a narrative. To achieve this, MIKS invited people from all walks of life to join workshops, and share ideas about narrative. We were interested in seeing how the audience’s associations and interpretations may be different every time from person to person. How would their memories, age life experience, gender and nationality have an impact on how they read a story? The project resulted in an informal sharing on Saturday 5th August 06.
